# Dean Rush: Welcome to Faith Breakthroughs

Dean Rush, executive director of Faith Breakthroughs, explains why the ministry exists and what it asks of Christians at work.

## Key lessons

- Faith Breakthroughs exists "to provide some tools for you to get Christ into the workplace."
- Many people are insecure about work, family, and daily life; Dean says "the main reason is that they don't know Christ... it's up to you and I to provide an example."
- Church is about an hour and a half a week. Work is about 47 hours, among about 150 people, most of whom don't know Christ.
- "It doesn't mean we have to go in and hammer them, it means we have to go in and set an example": honesty, and understanding when a marriage is coming apart.
- Jesus sent the Twelve to teach and heal, then the 72. "Go and do likewise... When you go to work this week take Christ with you."
- "We're not here to make money... you have a mission and I have a mission and that's to tell others about Christ."

## Transcript

_A verbatim transcript is not on file in the barn yet. These are condensed transcript notes from the source material Daniel Comp provided, in the video's order. Lines in quotation marks are quoted as they appear in the transcript; everything else is a close summary. Randy wrote these notes from the transcript and summary and did not watch the video._

Dean Rush introduces himself as executive director of Faith Breakthroughs. The purpose is "to provide some tools for you to get Christ into the workplace."

He spent most of his life as an executive at various aviation companies and saw many people insecure about how to operate, about their families, and about day-to-day life, "and the main reason is that they don't know Christ... it's up to you and I to provide an example."

He cites a 2004 magazine survey: fewer than 40% of American families attended church at least twice a month. (The magazine's name is unclear in the transcript and is left unnamed here.) A service is about an hour and a half, but people work about 47 hours a week and encounter about 150 people at work, most of whom don't know Christ. "It doesn't mean we have to go in and hammer them, it means we have to go in and set an example," with honesty, and with understanding when a marriage is coming apart.

Dean cites Jesus sending out the 12 to teach and heal, and gives the reference as Mark 9. (Editor's note: the sending of the Twelve is told in Mark 6 and Luke 9.) Teaching and healing means healing marriages, hurts, and understanding, done by exemplifying the traits of Christ.

Then the 72 are sent: "go and do likewise. Here we are 2000 years later and you and I need to go and do likewise... When you go to work this week take Christ with you."

Friends on the webpage share what they did in their businesses. "We're not here to make money... you have a mission and I have a mission and that's to tell others about Christ."

Dean invites viewers to contact him at faithbreakthroughs.com. (That is the older address; today the site is faithbreakthroughs.org.)
