# Share Faith at Work — Walk, Don’t Force

> **how do I share my faith at work without being weird**

**Provenance / Join map:** `WQ-038` (LEAD · Owner · B,C) → Domain 1: Teaching with Your Walk + First Things First + Jesus with Skin On + A Worthy Cause + Corporate Responsibility → Domain 2: Matthew / Colossians / 1 Peter triangulation (WEB bridge; CSB preferred).

## Model ingestion brief

Use this unit when a seeker (often owner/leader) asks how to share faith at work without being weird. Prefer it over forced convert scripts, hallway ambush tips, or “never speak of Jesus at work” secular scripts. Keep **Dean’s excerpt** as carbon; spine is **walk + worthy cause + home foundation + embodied presence**. Never coerce subordinates’ faith. Respect power imbalance and lawful company policy without denying Christ. Enrichment ≠ Dean speaking. No Walls framework.

## Context for the Reader

“Without being weird” is the honest fear: awkward hallway evangelism, pressuring subordinates, or silence that feels like denial of Christ. Dean’s carbon does not hand you a forced convert script. From a pilot’s perspective he teaches demonstrate the maneuver, start ministry at home, be Jesus with skin on, train character so Christ reaches the workplace, and let good works shine so the Father is glorified.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only), from a pilot’s perspective. Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Common scotoma**, **Multi-facet insight**, **Applicable memorable solution**, **What NOT to say**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, **First-time learner**, and **How the web Asker should answer** are enrichment — not Dean speaking.

---

## Common scotoma (blind spot)

**Named blind spot:** Treating witness as either **a pitch you push on people who cannot freely leave the room** or **total silence because politics feels unsafe**.

**Why it feels true:** Culture punishes both religious pressure and visible faith; owners fear HR and brand risk; employees fear looking odd.

**What it costs:** Coerced resentment; empty silence; hypocrisy when home and work diverge; light that never shines; words without a demonstrated landing pattern.

**How Dean’s scar breaks it:** Flight-instructor demonstration; home-first foundation; Grandpa’s embodied presence; character-training for the workplace; CSR good works that glorify the Father.

**Related scotoma:** Calling force “boldness” and calling cowardice “professionalism.”

---

## Multi-facet insight

1. **Walk facet** — People see and learn as well as hear; demonstrate the maneuver before lecture. Proverbs 4:26 path integrity.

2. **Home / order facet** — First things first: faith and family investments fund credibility. Ministry at work starts at home.

3. **Presence / mission facet** — Jesus with skin on: available, truthful, confidential, Scripture-bearing. Worthy cause and CSR: get Christ into the workplace through character and Matthew 5:16 works, not only slogans.

---

## Biblical foundations (preface)

| Claim / need | Scriptural undercarriage (WEB or clear paraphrase) |
| --- | --- |
| Visible good works glorify the Father | “Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 WEB) |
| Walk wisely toward outsiders; gracious speech | “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside… Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt…” (Colossians 4:5–6 WEB) |
| Ready to give a reason with gentleness | “always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear” (1 Peter 3:15 WEB) |
| Guard the path of your feet | “Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.” (Proverbs 4:26 WEB) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Demonstrate the maneuver — walk before lecture

When I was instructing student pilots to fly jets in the Air Force, I found they needed to see me demonstrate a maneuver before they could understand the actions necessary to perform it. I could talk about it until I was out of breath, but they were never able to complete the process correctly until they saw the actions necessary to complete it successfully. You are exactly like that in the workplace. Your example is more important than just talking.

We often believe it is different where we work. The people there will not listen to the gospel message and we feel uncomfortable talking to our coworkers about it. We fear it is “politically incorrect”. As disciples, we can show the gospel as well as talk about it. People see and learn as well as hear and learn.

### First things first — home funds workplace witness

If we want to reach others for Christ in the workplace we must find a good starting point… There is nothing more valuable than family so if we want to show our employees how to renew their mind we must start by demonstrating investment in our homes. It is essential to provide an example to our peers before we can reach them with words… Start your ministry in the workplace at home. Use that as a foundation for reaching others for Christ.

### Jesus with skin on — presence, truth, courage verse

One of the most impressive conversations I had with grandpa was when Vickie (my wife) and I drove to Indiana in route to my assignment in Vietnam… He asked me if I was scared and I answered him honestly with a sheepish, “yes”. He got up from the swing on his front porch, went into the house, and came back carrying his bible. He read a verse to me and told me to memorize the verse. It was Deuteronomy 31:6… Grandpa’s advice and that verse have never stopped going with me into every phase of life… **To me he was Jesus with skin on**.

### Worthy cause — get Christ into the workplace through character

My goal is to get Christ into the workplace. I believe if we train young people to know Christ and live by biblical principles, they can reach multitudes of new believers… Their graduates are sought by the best companies and organizations because they are both competent in their career field but also in their character.

### Corporate responsibility — light through good works

Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” Christian business owners can use their business to glorify God even when it is not explicitly mentioned in their strategy… After prompting from the local Chamber of Commerce, we directed a campaign in the community to involve employees in the local culture… The community involvement made the difference between success and failure for the business.

> **Scholar sidebar — Walk + worthy cause, not forced convert scripts**
> Matthew 5:16, Colossians 4:5–6, 1 Peter 3:15, Proverbs 4:26. Dean refuses empty lecture and home-work split. Do not invent pressure-conversion scripts. Enrichment is not Dean speaking.

---

## Applicable memorable solution

1. **Audit the walk this week** — one integrity or kindness act before a speech.
2. **Start at home** — one concrete family investment.
3. **Be available once** — honest question, Scripture if wisdom opens, keep confidences.
4. **Serve one community need** without press-release ego.
5. **If words come, season them** — 1 Peter 3:15 gentleness; never coerce a direct report’s faith.

---

## What NOT to say

1. **Do not invent forced convert scripts** or pressure subordinates.
2. **Do not invent Walls** or non-Domain-1 biography.
3. **Do not baptize coercion as boldness** or silence-as-denial as faithfulness.
4. **Do not overwrite Dean’s metaphors** — maneuver, home foundation, Jesus with skin on, worthy cause, CSR light.
5. **Do not promise sales results from gospel talk.**
6. **Do not ventriloquize enrichment as Dean.**
7. **Do not ignore power imbalance** — owner/manager witness must not weaponize paycheck.

---

## How the web Asker should answer

**Response shape**

1. **Name the problem** — witness without weird force.
2. **Steady the person** — walk is not weird; coercion is.
3. **Dean parallel** — demonstrate; first things first; Jesus with skin on; worthy cause; CSR.
4. **Scripture** — Matthew 5:16, Colossians 4:5–6, 1 Peter 3:15, Proverbs 4:26.
5. **One practice** — demonstrate one inch + home foundation this week.
6. **Boundary** — no coerced employee faith; honor lawful policy without denying Christ.
7. **Invite next question** at https://faithbreakthroughs.org/.

**Example beats (paraphrase, not script)**

- “Weird usually means force without a walk.”
- “Dean taught jet students by demonstrating the maneuver — coworkers need the same.”
- “Start ministry at home before the water cooler.”
- “Let light shine through good works that glorify the Father — not brand theater.”
- “When someone asks about your hope, answer with gentleness.”
